Even if you have never experienced your own health crisis, chances are you know someone who has. With the rates of cancer and other illnesses, we have all been touched by health issues. If you have never had one, let me tell you - crisis’ comes in many forms not just ones we’re all aware of.
Some are anxiety, some are cancer, some like mine relate to a chemical sensitivity.
One thing that is consistent no matter what the health crisis is - is that you the individual start trying to figure out what happened to cause this problem.
What did I do? Where did I get it? And why me?
You search your entire being and wonder if was the home we lived in, the chemicals on our lawn or somewhere you worked as a child or adult. The search runs through your mind in many different fashions until you are just not sure anymore what happened.
People around you want to support you but don't totally understand what you’re going through.
A friend of mine who has Parkinson's once told me “maybe this is just the way its going to be and you need to get over it and figure out how to deal with it”. I am not sure that would have meant much from someone else, but knowing her own personal struggles, this gave me a wakeup call and moved my mindset just a little bit more forward.
I was going to keep looking to improve, trying new things, reading new views and ultimately to come out of the abyss that had entered my life. It took optimism and determination to keep moving forward.
Looking back now, it is surprising what can become a blessing and reset you in a different direction in your life allowing you to focus on the things that are truly important like experiences, friendships and family, not just work and the ultimate pursuit to get ahead.
